Fancy Chords (for three fingers)

from $140.00

Sundays: February 15th, 22th, March 1st, and 8th at 7pm (ct) on Zoom

This course is for intertermediate-to-advanced guitar players who want to know some fancier chords up the neck, specifically how using inversions (or flipping the order of the voicings in a triad) in the lower 4 strings can provide beautiful voice-leading textures in guitar accompaniment parts.

This class builds upon the material from the “Jazz Guitar (for people who play cowboy chords)” class, though that’s not a pre-requisite if the student has a basic understanding of triads and common jazz shapes up the neck.

We will cover…

  • Basic run-down of 3 finger 7th chord shapes

  • 3- finger shapes for inversions of triads and 7th chords

  • Ear-training skills as they pertain to voice-leading- aka: how to listen to chords move and notice which notes need to change in order to get to the next chord

  • Chord voicings for songs that use inversions up the neck, including my song “Girl On My Shoulder,” as well as a few other songs.

A Note On My Teaching Style : Learning things by ear is where I’m comfortable. I don’t know the names of all the notes on the guitar neck, and I rely very heavily on my ears to figure out what to play. I think of chords in terms of shapes and patterns rather than individual note names or specific key signatures. I will offer visual aids for these chords, but not sheet music, so bare that in mind so you can make an informed decision about if this class will work well for your learning style!

The course will run weekly on Zoom Sunday nights at 7pm (central time) for four sessions: February 15th, 22th, March 1st, and 8th.

All classes will be recorded and emailed to students the day after the class, so while live participation in all sessions is appreciated, it’s not necessary.

The course is sliding scale $140-$240 (this includes the price of the recordings), or Patreon members can get a $40 discount with a discount code. I also 2 BIPOC full-price scholarships available! Email me at sadiebgz@gmail.com to claim!
